Five-and-Under Eligibility
The Spirit of Curling is grounded in fairness, respect, and integrity. That spirit guides us in ensuring that Five-and-Under events remain true to their purpose: providing a competitive yet supportive environment for curlers with five or fewer years of experience.
To maintain a level playing field, it is important that all participants understand and adhere to USA Curling’s Five-and-Under eligibility requirements.
Beginning with the 2027 USA Curling Five-and-Under National Championship, a season of curling experience is defined as 15 or more games played between June 1 and May 31 of the following year. This includes league play and bonspiel games.
Competitors may not have more than five qualifying seasons of curling experience.
All players will be required to certify their eligibility before competing.
Why does this matter?
Participation by an ineligible player could jeopardize a team’s opportunity to advance to Nationals and result in additional penalties under USA Curling’s qualification procedures.
Full details can be found in the USA Curling Qualification Procedures.
By following these requirements, we protect both the fairness of the competition and the Spirit of Curling itself.
The Road to Nationals
The MoPac 5&U is a qualifying event for the 2027 USA Curling Five-and-Under National Championships.
The winning team will earn a qualifying berth in accordance with USA Curling’s official procedures.
A few important reminders:
Eligibility Matters: All competitors must meet USA Curling’s Five-and-Under eligibility requirements. Participation by an ineligible player could jeopardize a team’s qualification for Nationals and result in additional penalties.
National Championship Berths: The winning team earns a berth to the USA Curling 5&U National Championships, subject to USA Curling’s qualification requirements.
Declined Berths & Fill Policy: If a qualifying team declines its berth, USA Curling uses an alternating fill policy that considers both women’s team participation and qualifier bonspiel size. One list prioritizes runner-up teams composed primarily of women, ranked by the number of women on the team and then bonspiel size. A second list ranks all qualifier runners-up under the standard fill policy. Available berths alternate between the two lists, beginning with the women’s team list. The MoPac runner-up is not automatically guaranteed a berth.
USA Curling Membership: Teams advancing to Nationals must meet USA Curling’s applicable membership requirements, including any required Competitor Tier upgrades.
National Championship Details: CurlVegas, May 4-9, 2027
