“It was a great event in a beautiful location.”-David Betts, WCCC.
The MoPac Men’s Arena Playdown event wrapped up on Sunday, August 25th. Lake Tahoe Epic Curling Club (LTEC) hosted the playdown and drew compliments for their welcoming club, outstanding hospitality and fast ice with lots of finish. In between games players enjoyed the atmosphere that is Lake Tahoe. And a first was made as the MoPac all women’s ice crew kept the ice in championship shape. (More on the women’s ice crew soon! Look for this future story.)
Congratulations to Team Betts (Wine Country CC) for the win and for securing a berth to USA Curling’s Men’s Arena National Championships scheduled for October 23-27, 2024 at Wausau Curling Club.
Team Betts is:
- David Betts
- Steve Sampson
- Christopher Skidmore
- Eric Putnam
- Nelson Hilger
Honorable mention to Team Spangler (Wine Country CC) for a dramatic final that came down to the last shot.
MoPac Board member and Social Media guru, Ryan Olson, was back to provide live coverage and camera work. Doubletakeout.com helped once again as the event sponsor.
“This MoPac playdown was incredible, but tough” said Second Chris Skidmore. “The level of curling was rock solid on all of the teams” agreed Vice Steve Sampson. “I really felt that any of the teams could have won the tournament.”
Team camaraderie was cited by team members as the most satisfying element of the win. Lead Eric Putnam mused, “It was a great team win and some really (REALLY!) good competition from all the clubs.” Skidmore added, “Along the way, we had some really close games against strong competition that could have seen the results go the other way if we hadn’t had the experience as a team to keep our heads up when things go wrong… All of the time and effort to get here has brought our team close together and getting that championship patch on Sunday meant even more because it was earned with this group.” “Honestly, the best part of winning this tournament is the feeling of camaraderie felt by our team” agreed Sampson.
Games are available for viewing on the MoPac YouTube channel.
We wish both the MoPac men’s and women’s arena teams good luck and good curling in Wausau!
