Congratulations to our newly elected Board members! We are excited to have new and returning members serve on the Board this upcoming year.
Vice President: Stefan Brems (Oval CC)
Returning Board Member
Term ending June 2027
Treasurer: Danny Padilla (Wine Country CC)
Position previously held by Matthew Merkle
Term ending June 2030
Secretary: Stacey Iwata (Hollywood CC)
Position previously held by Chris Bilbrey
Term ending June 2027
Stacey was born and raised in Hawai’i (O’ahu) and only saw curling on TV during the Olympics. There was (and still is) only one ice rink in the entire island chain, so being on ice wasn’t something she was comfortable with (even on skates). But after moving to Los Angeles and especially after Team Shuster won gold at the 2018 Olympics, she just had to give it a try. While she is still pretty new to the sport, she’s had so much fun doing something that not much of the country (nor her friends and family) know about. One of her most amazing curling experiences to date happened in March at the House of Hearts Bonspiel in Duluth, MN – her team had an 8 ender with Chris Plys as skip (the first for all 4 teammates)! More recently, Stacey has been teaching Learn-to-Curls with Hollywood Curling Club, assisting Team USA/USA Curling with two events in Los Angeles that included Olympians, Paralympians and social media influencers, and looks forward to re-joining her club’s league in the fall. Stacey plays competitive tennis in local USTA adult leagues, and in the past, has served in different positions on the board of the Monterey Park Tennis Club, a small club in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles. She also loves traveling, but most often goes back to Hawai’i to visit family. By being a part of MoPac’s board, Stacey looks forward to meeting a lot of new people, helping to spread interest in the sport, and assisting the member clubs to provide tools for their membership in order to continue competing in and enjoying this sport we all love. Aloha!
